Introducing Olympia

Introducing Olympia “

Could not fault the crew and staff on anything. They were so kind and cheerful. The whole atmosphere was the same from morning to night. Mr & Mrs B, Birmingham

A new look for Olympia Regular passengers joining Olympia in 2016 will find a brighter, more modern décor throughout the ship, following an extensive refurbishment of soft furnishings and many fittings aboard the vessel. Over the winter the ship also underwent major engineering works to both her structure and engine room. Together with the recent installation of flat-screen TVs in all cabins and the refurbishment of the bathrooms, these enhancements give the ship a new, fresh feel. With the warmth of welcome from the Captain and cruise staff, and the high standards enjoyed in the dining room, Olympia more than merits her uprated ‘Three-star Superior’ grading.

Aboard or ashore – you’re in great company All the pleasures of life on board Olympia are described on the following pages. By day and by night, you’ll be looked after by a crew and cruise staff dedicated to your holiday enjoyment. Each cruise features several fascinating ports of call, at which you can step ashore to explore under your own steam, or more likely join our Cruise Manager on well-priced optional excursions that will bring to life the places visited.

Our popular, Swiss-registered cruise vessel Olympia has been sailing ‘under the Newmarket flag’ since 2008, plying her gentle course up and down the Rhine, Moselle, Main and Danube, and criss-crossing the Dutch and Belgian waterways. A regular sight at all the rivers’ iconic ports of call, she is a delightful, intimate river cruise ship.

Spotlight on Olympia

With emphasis very much on relaxed informality – the Captain, crew and the cruise staff go out of their way to create a friendly ambience throughout the ship. Olympia, which has undergone a wideranging refurbishment of her soft furnishings and fittings, and is now rated a Three-star Superior vessel, offers a full programme of classic voyages throughout the year. You can join her in the spring as the famous Dutch bulbfields burst into bloom, and in summertime explore the furthest reaches of the mighty Rhine or meandering Moselle. Cruise south to Switzerland on the former or west to ancient Trier on the latter, through valleys of ripening vineyards, past fairy‑tale

The Lounge & Bar

Your Comfortable Cabin Awaits

Much of the day, when you’re on board the ship, might be spent relaxing in the comfortable lounge, enjoying the passing scenery, curled up with a good book, chatting to fellow passengers or even joining in a friendly game of cards – a river cruise holiday doesn’t have to be all about sightseeing or shopping! Enjoy a mid-morning coffee or afternoon tea, or a drink from the bar, before heading to the dining room.

Olympia’s 49 cabins are arranged on two decks and offer excellent twin‑bedded accommodation (the beds convert into sofas for daytime use) with newly upgraded private shower and WC facilities, a table, flat-screen TV, a chair and small wardrobe. Large picture windows offer views of the ever‑changing scenery as it passes by. Your steward will ensure that your cabin is tidied and prepared for you each evening.

In the evenings, the lounge and bar put on a different cloak, as the on-board musician and the ship’s crew put on occasional lighthearted entertainment and there’s even the opportunity to take to the dance floor.

Cabin prices vary according to their deck and location on board Olympia. You’ll find a Deck Plan on page 15 of the brochure.

Whether you awaken as the ship continues on her gentle way, or to greet a new port of call, you’ll leave your cabin to enjoy a full breakfast in the dining room, or to take the air on top deck. The day’s programme will be organised by our on-board Cruise Manager, and might include time to step ashore to enjoy an included or optional excursion.

The Olympia Dining Experience One of the undoubted highlights of your holiday will be the full-board dining arrangements in the ship’s delightful restaurant. You’ll enjoy sumptuous fare – a mix of regional specialities, international dishes and meals tailored to British palates, all prepared by the on-board chefs – served in comfortable, relaxed surroundings. A well-stocked breakfast buffet sets you up for the day ahead, while lunch generally includes a salad buffet and lighter main dish. In the evening, when the atmosphere is generally

more ‘smart casual’ than ‘formal’ – although gentlemen may like to don a jacket for the special Welcome and Farewell nights (available on longer duration cruises only) – a delicious four-course meal is served. As Olympia sails through regions famed for their love of good food, expect to taste some local dishes, and don’t miss the opportunity to sample the wines for which the Rhine and Moselle are celebrated. In Cologne, it’s the local Kölsch beer that takes pride of place, while in Rüdesheim, another regular port of call, you might try the local Asbach brandy.
