You will have received Notice of the EGM that will take place on Thursday 12 th October, at which two Resolutions will be considered and voted upon. The first Resolution is to increase the maximum number of members from 2000 to 2200. This will enable us to continue the current policy of admitting new members, including children of members, at a gradual rate, in order to ensure that we do not place an excessive burden on the capacity of the Club’s facilities. The second Resolution is to increase the duration of Sporting Subscriberships from three to four years, which will slow the rate at which Sporting Subscribers are absorbed into the general membership upon satisfactory completion of their sporting commitment to the Club. Please put the above date in your diary and attend the EGM to participate in the discussions and to vote on the two Resolutions. If for any reason you are unable to attend in person, you are of course able to appoint a proxy to attend and vote on your behalf, and proxy forms are available from the Club’s general office. If you wish to appoint a proxy you need to make sure that you return the form to the office at least 48 hours before the meeting. Your General Committee are considering the introduction of a minimum spend requirement which I expect will be proposed at the Club’s AGM in December when the details have been worked out. We are also in the process of establishing a separate and dedicated accounting system for maintenance and improvement works, with all revenue from the issue of new memberships and transfers of corporate memberships being allocated to this account. We are also considering the introduction of a form of maintenance levy, and if this is done the money raised will also be allocated to this account.

Mindful of the need to raise funds for the improvement of our existing facilities, your GC have agreed to the setting up of a working group consisting of some GC members and other members, to consider ways in which funds may be raised and to make recommendations to the General Committee. If you would like to be part of this working group, please let me or any other of our GC know. With regard to the Club’s facilities, our management are in the process of undertaking a survey of usage of the various facilities and will be reporting back to the GC next month, with a view to improving the overall usage of our facilities for the benefit of our members. I am mindful that we do need to prepare a medium and longer term Action Plan for your further consideration, with a view to ensuring continuity and a more focused direction. This is on the agenda. On the sporting front, I had the pleasure recently of watching our Templars cricketers displaying their skills against the HKCC Witherers, and was very impressed by their all-round performance in a convincing win. Their fielding stood out as first class, and shows the benefit of all the pre-season training that has been done under the eagle eye of our Director of Cricket Charlie Burke and Head Cricket Coach Scott McKechnie. As Greg has mentioned in his report, the International Cricket Sixes are returning to KCC later this month, and in mid-October we are welcoming the Afghanistan National Cricket Team to the Club to play against our Hong Kong National “A” Team. The Cricket Sixes and this match will I am sure be very entertaining, so come along and watch. With my best wishes,

Dear Members, Fall is upon us and the temperatures (and humidity!) are finally abating and we can look forward to our cooler fall months ahead. The Cricket Sixes is returning to KCC! That’s right, Cricket Hong Kong and their subsidiary CCIL have secured the sponsorships necessary to go forward with this exciting event. We are so very pleased to have been asked to once again be the venue for this event which will be held on Saturday October 28th and Sunday October 29th. It goes without saying that although this will be an exciting event to host, there will be inconveniences experienced. Mark your calendars for the ever popular Family Camp Out on the Grounds! The dates this year are Wednesday October 4th and Thursday October 5th. Full details of this event were published in last month’s magazine. Movie on the LED screen, pool BBQ dinner and breakfast, roasting marshmallows, etc. This popular event sells out early so contact us right away to make your reservations. Afghanistan National Cricket Team vs Hong Kong The national cricket team from Afghanistan will be visiting KCC from Sunday October 15th through to October 17th. They will be playing the Hong Kong National “A” team in a 3 day friendly match here at KCC starting at 10am each day. This will be the first multi day game that the Afghanistan National team will play since receiving Test status from the ICC. KCC Corporate Sixes: This year we will be once again holding our popular KCC Cricket Corporate Sixes on Saturday, 18 November and Sunday, 19 November. The Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association will be holding the annual HK International Classic Tournament from November 11th to 19th at KBGC, CdeR, USRC and KCC. This is the premier event for the HK Lawn Bowls Association and there will be exciting bowling played. Do come out to support our KCC players, representing KCC ladies pairs Annie Yeung and Tammy Tham and the men’s pairs Bob Mehta and Danny Ho. KCC's Raymond Ho will represent Hong Kong. KCC will host two top international teams England & New Zealand during the duration of the International tournament. HKLBA have chosen KCC to hold their HK International Classics Closing Dinner on 19th November 2017. In-addition, the HKLBA will also be holding the Classics Carnival from Wednesday November 8th through Wednesday November 15th at IRC and the Football Club. Good Bowling to all. KCC v HKCC After a very busy offseason, the season has finally arrived – and with a new on-field look and a number of new captains and players, this promises to be an exciting season ahead. The league structure has slightly changed, with the Premier League one-day competition now a T20 format. Shrey Sportswear have come onboard as the official clothing supplier for the cricket section, and there has been promising feedback regarding the new look. Junior numbers are also on the rise, with a 30% increase from last season taking the numbers above 150 kids enrolled in the program; and we are only at the start of the program. The aim to have 160 kids in the program will doubtless be achieved, and we look on target to reach 180+ in 2018-19.

International Cricket at KCC KCC will host four international teams/matches from 22 September to 17 October, with the Hong Kong Women. Hong Kong ‘A’ and our own KCC XI all featuring against some of the best in the region. Nepal will play a one-day match against KCC XI on Tuesday 10 October, in preparation for their ICC World Cricket League matches against Hong Kong. Afghanistan will play their first multi-day match since gaining test status at KCC, against a Hong Kong A squad; this starts on Sunday 15 October. Hong Kong’s Women’s team played against Korea on Friday 22 September, after Nepal defeated China in an earlier match. KCC are well represented in the international scene, with six players selected for the busy international schedule. Jamie Atkinson, Chris Carter, Aizaz Khan and Matthew Stiller have been selected in the Men’s squad, while Keenu Gill – off the back of a fantastic 2016-17 – will also have KCC maiden’s teammate Bella Poon, who is making her debut in the Hong Kong squad, alongside her. A reminder to all members that the Hong Kong Sixes are back on the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October. The tournament will be an eight-team competition. The last time the sixes were held was back in 2012, when South Africa defeated Pakistan.

Although the official hockey season ends in May, our most dedicated KCC members continue playing through the summer in both the HKHA Summer League and PreSeason Friendlies.

These matches cater to players of all ages and abilities – allowing our junior players to gain valuable experience alongside senior players and vets. Our players have displayed commitment, determination and enthusiasm, playing through the hottest of days and nights – thus ensuring they’re fit and ready for the new 2017–18 season that starts in mid-September.

Stay tuned each month to meet the forces behind KCC Hockey.Keep an eye out for two of our upcoming players in the Men’s Hockey Section: Hassan Ali and Nadeem Khan. 22-year old Hassan Ali has played for KCC for nearly three years as a sweeper and mid-fielder, and will be in the B Team this coming season. Check him out when you come along to support KCC. Nadeem Khan has been playing for KCC for the last year in the C Team. Pay attention to this 18-year old, who mostly plays up front as a forward.

We look forward to seeing more of these energetic and dedicated young men.

KCC Dragons - Strong pre-season offers high hopes for season ahead By Dan Jacques

An encouraging summer has seen expectations rise amongst the football section as KCC Dragons look ahead to the new Yau Yee League season. After finishing outside the top six for the first time in a decade last season, lots of work off the field has gone into getting KCC back where it belongs – at the top end of Division 1 in Hong Kong’s premier amateur football league. This year, Barry Brown will lead the Dragons as Head Coach, alongside Assistant Coach Ming Kong. Dan Jacques will take on the management of the team, supported by Danny Loup. Pre-season has seen some strong recruitment adding quality and depth to Dragons, something that can be seen from their 100% record during pre-season. A 3-1 win over KCC Caviliers kicked off the summer, followed by a 3-1 win against Corinthians, a 2-1 win over USRC, an 18-0 win over Ants FC, with a 7-1 win over Division 1 Rivals – Boca – rounding off the pre-season schedule. The team’s positive attitude and performances has seen excitement build amongst regular spectators of the Football Section’s first team. Barry Brown said after the 7-1 triumph “We are looking to play a fast and exciting brand of football this season, and are already starting to turn a few heads with the quality we are showing early on”. Section Captain, Dan Schick added “It’s still early days, but the signs are looking good for a strong season.” Dragons have often enjoyed good support from wider members of KCC, and we urge football fans across the club to head up to Kings Park on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy a cold pint and a good game of football alongside the friendly regulars. (all fixtures can be found on the football section notice board) Finally, on behalf of the Dragons squad, I’d like to wish our other section teams, Knights, Royals, Cavaliers and Vets, all the best for the upcoming season, and look forward to seeing some familiar faces at Kings Park over the coming weekends.

KCC Youth Football Open Days By Steve Palfrey

The football season has begun with the KCC Youth Football Open Days that were held at the club on the 12th and 19th of August and after a rather wet summer of hit and miss days on the weather front, we were graced with some superior sunny days to help the kids enjoy the festivities on hand. There was an enthusiastic turn out of children of all ages wanting to be the KCC stars of tomorrow, with plenty of returning faces as well as some newly generated interest. The days were marshalled by Adrian Townson, Head of KCC Youth Football this season and the APSS coaching team of Dave Stewart and Henry Lee, Head and Assistant Head Coach respectively. The coaches from APSS were also out in force to help with the open day and encourage the children's participation in this fun and inclusive program. Adrian kicked off proceedings with his usual warm and friendly welcome and re-grouped with the parents later in the morning to outline the finer details of the club and expected behavior of our visitors. Adrian outlined the “Who’s Who” of KCC Youth Football Poster with the names, contact details and photos of all the 3 heads of programme and introduction to the coaches for the season ahead. Dave was on hand to give a rousing portrait of the football proceedings and expectation of support from the coaches for the juniors this year. One of the highlights for the children was to take part in the “Icon” training wall, where the children were pitting the accuracy of their passing skills against a timer wall. The Icon was inspired by the well-known ‘tika-taka’ style of play, made famous by Barcelona, and provides players of all levels an engaging and interactive environment whereby they can not only practice the basic football techniques of passing and control, but also benefit from precise data that enables performance analysis for each individual on an ongoing basis. The Elite Skills Arena mantra is ‘good repetition accelerates performance’. The APSS coaches set up some fun activities of Goal Shooting accuracy, Rebound Net shooting and a Speed Gun, with some juniors recording speeds in excess of 65 km/Hr. The mornings were rounded off with a few Practice Matches where the children had the chance to play alongside the coaches and their coaching support staff as well as other children in the program of various ages. This year we will re-introduced the Goal keeping coach program to support the full rounded player experience and promote KCC as a premier training academy. “Player Layer” our new kit supplier, were also on hand throughout both events to support the Juniors getting fitted for the 2017 – 2019 in the KCC football kit. The new kits are inspired by an Ajax themed pattern and looked great. We have also introduced the ability of putting names on the shirts for the Juniors, to add that personal touch. We have gone “online” for the purchasing this season and the first batch of new soccer kits has started to arrive at the children’s home addresses for those who had registered early, with more kits to be delivered over the coming weeks. KCC U18 Trial Match v CharterHouse, UK, U18 Boys By Adrian Townson

As part of their Hong Kong Tour 2017, the CharterHouse School from the UK ended up at Kings Park on a rainy August evening! Coached by the ex-Tottenham Hotspur Midfielder and 1991 F.A.Cup winner David Howells, they brought a large squad of over 20 players. The KCC U18 Team had held its first trials and with well over 20 players interested in joining this season, this was a great opportunity for Coach Eddie to have a look at the new players as well as some existing ones, as he tried to slim down the squad. The match was played over three thirds of 30 minutes each, allowing both coaches to mix their teams around; and for the spectators it was also great to see the range of talented footballers on both sides. Charterhouse played their 1st XI and were easy victors of the 1st period, with great passing and accuracy in front of goal. The second period was more even, albeit Charterhouse just edged it with a couple of well taken late strikes, but in the 3rd period the teams played out a 0:0 draw. It is always great to get the opportunity to play touring sides, especially those from countries with strong footballing backgrounds and with high profile coaches! It was a great opportunity for our coach Eddie and the players, and we hope it will prove valuable experience, as we move forwards this season. There were certainly many positives to take from the game.

Fun Day for IBET's Jordan Centre kids By Coach Henry

It was a hot and humid afternoon in Kings Park, where Rugby and Football joined forces in a sporting Fun Day for 50 underprivileged kids from The “IBET” Jordan Centre. IBET is committed to educating and empowering students from underprivileged ethnic minority groups, by providing high-quality educational support. The coaches took 2 sessions with the kids, who enjoyed some rugby followed by fun football drills and mini games. It was great to have the opportunity to work with such an energetic and joyful bunch. Balls were flying, goals were scored, everyone was smiling and having a great time at the event.

KCC – Youth Football U15/U16 Colts Football Program By Pravin Bhardwaj

This year saw an incredible turnout for the U15 and U16 KCC Colts Program. The program is run in conjunction with APSS, providing high quality coaching on a weekly basis. The level of competition for places was very high; we had close to 50 players competing for the KCC elite program. It has been a very difficult process for coaches to choose players from a large pool, and trials are still ongoing. Congratulations to all the finalists who have been selected based on their performance at the first two trials. We look forward to an exciting and enjoyable league this season. Players who have not been selected for the HKFA team will have the opportunity to train and play for the Colts Recreational program on Saturday evenings, with the ongoing opportunity to still make the team later in the season. Training has been scheduled for every Wednesday, and we look forward to seeing everyone who has tried out for the Colts Program, joining the team or the recreational sessions in future.

KCC Youth Football – Asst. Coaches Training By Adrian Townson

After passing the APSS Asst. Coaches training course last season, a select few have been chosen to take part in the KCC Youth Football Programme (Junior Section) and assist the APSS coaches this season. This is a fantastic opportunity for the 6 players from the KCC Colts and KCC Young Ladies Teams. To complete their training, they had a final “classroom” session before the season began, with KCC Youth Football Head Coach Dave and his Assistant Coach Henry, where they ran through the key elements of training, under the watchful eye of the Youth Football Heads, Adrian Townson (Head of Youth Football), Steve Palfrey (Head of Junior Boys) and Scott Allen (Head of Junior Girls). There will be further opportunities for any of our Colts and Young Ladies to participate in this course in the 2nd half of the season, and details will follow on how they can get involved. In the meantime, we congratulate the 6 – Jai Savalani, Faith Jung, Alex Ekberg, Gabrielle Desilets, Nicholas Lumley-Smith and Oscar George, and look forward to their dedication to the programme and wish them well for the season ahead.

JS and SS Introduction Meeting By Luca Merlone

On 24 August, the Football Section arranged the first JS and SS Introduction meeting for all the players involved, with the 4 Adult teams at KCC. The meeting was the first of its kind, putting together all new and current Junior and Sporting Subscribers of the Football section, to confirm their commitment to the Club and their involvement in the football section. The 2-hour meeting was hosted by the Football Convener Luca Merlone and the Football Secretary Adrian Townson, spanning topics, from playing commitments and the support for our junior program, to engagement in social events, and pride in being part of such a fantastic Club. The event was a great success, with more than 50 people signed in.

Season Opener Pool Party By Raj Heera

The KCC Football Section’s season-opening pool party turned out to be another great event, with many of our players attending along with their better halves! A few even read the advert and turned up in their retro football tops to enjoy a night of food, drinks and fun games. Some old airline life vests also made it to the event, triggering some interesting takes on evacuation routines! Players from all 4 of our adult teams at KCC made it to the poolside kick-off, and not even the bad weather could stop us enjoying some chilled beers and great food by the pool. Some new faces joined us this season, and it was great to see everyone bonding! The “Official Relay” was a very tight contest this time around, thanks to some suspicious drinking tactics from Santi, who decided it would be more appropriate to bathe himself in the cold brew rather than gulping it down as instructed by the MC for the night; and the one and only Dan Jacques, who donned a life vest in case anyone decided to toss him in the pool.

The “Biggest Splash” contest came down to a “flop out ” be between Mr.100% Raj and the man mountain that is Dan Schick. Word has it that Dan’s belly flop was heard all round the globe, and was more than enough to take the honours from Raj. The annual “Boatrace” was held between the teams, albiet the “Dutch” ringers taught everyone a lesson in sinking a cold one! The “Cup Flip” was added at the end, to help some of our American and Canadian guests feel at home! With the season Kicked-Off in style, it’s now up to our boots to do the talking and we look forward to another successful season.

Annual Graham Archer Tournament By Raj Heera

The 6th Annual Graham Archer tournament was held on Saturday 26 August. The weather was fine, and KCC Grounds staff again ensured the 2 football pitches were in top condition. This year’s tournament was our biggest yet, with 16 teams and over 200 people in attendance. It turned out to be a great day with burgers, bangers and beer, not forgetting the actual football. We welcomed a few new teams including the BGC Bears from the British Consulate, and Happy 99 from the local “Happy League”. This year, the tournament was opened to quite a few teams from outside KCC, and this helped create a very homey image of the club as well as spreading the importance and significant meaning behind the tournament, for the great man who was Graham Archer. All teams observed a minute’s silence in recognition of Graham, and Jim Down delivered a few words for our beloved friend.

In the traditional women’s final, the KCC Young Ladies prevailed in penalties over a strong Goodbellas team, with some excellent goals and shot stopping. As for the bowl final, FOTB, captained by Roshan Daswani, triumphed over the KGV Staffies, who put up a resilient performance, but youthful exuberance come out on top. Last but not least, the Cup final proved to be a brilliant exhibition of football, with Good Knight, captained by Manjeet Brar, beating tournament debutants BCG Bears 3:0. This tournament is all about having a good time and enjoying an atmosphere of togetherness, which is exactly what Arch would have loved to see. Football and Fun were again very much the winners! It was a privilege for me as the new KCC Football Section Events Manager to organise this as my first event on the committee, and I would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone involved for making this a very memorable day for everyone.

Sunday 3rd September saw the HKFA Presentation Ceremony for the Winners and Runners up in the Jockey Club Leagues for the 2016-17 Season. Despite the Typhoon signals in force and much wind and rain, Pravin Bhardwaj our Head of Colt Football was on hand with his son, to pick up the U16 Runners-Up Trophy and Medals. This was a tough age group and great to the KCC Team only a slender margin away from being Hong Kong’s Top U16 Team! Well done to all involved!

Tammy Wins Bronze in 29th SEA Games The 29th SEA (South East Asian) Games were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during August. Events included a lawn bowls competition, played from 22–27 August at the National Lawn Bowls Centre, with competitors from Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

The two finalists were a Malaysian – who had only narrowly defeated Tammy, 21:19 – and a competitor from Brunei, who Tammy had lost lost to by an even narrower margin, 21:20. The Malaysian went on to win the final.

Congratulations to Tammy, who was so very close to making it all the way to Gold!

Team KCC v HKYDT - 19 August 2017 By Peter Hevicon

This match was held on a roasting hot August day, attracting participation by 72 players, 36 on each team. The competition was as fierce as the midday sun, and after some hard fought battles, KCC Mens won 3 rinks, HKYDT won 3 rinks, and KCC Ladies won all their 3 rinks. With 2 points awarded for a win, the overall result was a victory for KCC, with 12 points versus 6 points to HKYDT. The event was well supported, with officials and coaches from HKLBA, HKYDT and LCSD, and proved especially popular as it also marked the launch of the KCC/HKLBA joint junior development program.

Chadwick Chen Hong Kong Lawn Bowler Of The Year 2016 By Peter Hevicon

A Story of loyalty, dedication, talent and achievement, Chadwick commenced lawn bowling in KCC at the age of nine (1983), Chadwick's first league game was in Ronnie Ng's rink in the 3rd Division at the tender age of 10yrs. Chadwick's dedication to lawn bowls and practice soon revealed a future lawn bowls champion of considerable talent.

There was further international success for junior subscriber Janice Ho Kawing, who had helped our ladies team to claim doubles champions in Div 1, Hong Kong Squash League 2016-17. She had an outstanding performance in the 24th Asian Junior Individual Championship, held in Amman, Jordan. She was on her top form, and came second in the U19 Girls group, only losing to the top seed, Satomi Wanatabe of Japan, in the final.

25.2 The Fitness Centre is subject to the following usage rules: (a)

All Users must sign the Attendance Record on every occasion they enter the Fitness Centre unless physical disability prevents this and written approval has been obtained from Management.

Users are discouraged from bringing bags into the Fitness Centre and where necessar y they must be placed on the shelf in front of the staff counter. Belongings such as bags must not be placed near any training station /machine as they may be a hazard to Users.

Kettlebell We have long been using dumbbells for our workouts, but we may have another option: kettlebell. Kettlebell is a iron-iron weight with a handle, and is pretty versatile because with it, you not only train your muscle strength, but also your cardiovascular system and flexibility at the same time. The main thing that distinguishes the kettlebell from its dumbbell cousin is the off-set nature of the load. A kettlebell’s centre of gravity lies away from your grip, which makes it harder to control. As a result, practically any exercise you do with it is going to require stricter form and more muscle activation than you could get away with using a dumbbell. Since swing action, which requires more space, is more frequently employed with kettlebell, you should ensure it is in clear space, and be aware of any people nearby. Below is an introduction to two exercises for kettlebell: 1. Kettlebell Swing Target muscles: hips, legs, back muscles 1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, and knees slightly bent; look straight ahead. Hold a kettlebell between your legs using a two-handed, overhand grip; 2.

Keeping the arch in your lower back, bend your hips back until the kettlebell is between and behind your legs; squeeze your glutes to extend your hips and swing the weight up; and

3. Let the weight swing back between your legs as you bend your hips and slightly bend your knees; if it hits you in the butt, you’re doing it right! And then repeat.

2. Kettlebell Clean and Press Target muscles: Shoulders 1. Hold a kettlebell by the handle. Clean the kettlebell to your shoulder by extending through the legs and hips as you pull the kettlebell towards your shoulder. Rotate your wrist as you do so, so that the palm faces forward; and 2. Press the kettlebell overhead to lockout by extending the arms. Then, repeat. The food and wines tasted like any Michelin-starred restaurant, as was evident from poring over the selection of wines and the matched dinner menu. This was one of the most enjoyable evenings, with both the wines and food out-competing one another in the palate, and demanding your attention. The “lemon-lavender” soufflé matched with muscat de beaumes de venise (also from the same region) was the highlight of the event.

Chateau Musar tasting and dinner On the evening of Tuesday 12 September, we had a very interesting line-up of wines from the 1960s all the way to 2012, for both the red and white wines. Marc Hochar, son of the late Serge Hochar, delicately double-decanted the wines himself, and had them ready for tasting by members of both the KCC Wine Society and the Hong Kong Wine Society. They were matched with excellent Middle-eastern cuisine prepared by Chef Sing and his team in the Grill room. This was a “bucket-list” evening for wine tasting!

Cellar Tastings Held on ever y 2 nd Thursday of the month, members can taste wines that are being selected for the wine list as well as tasting some rare bottles found in the cellars. We hope through these tasting, your palate can be kept up-to-date with the revised wine-list and provide valuable feedback to the committee for future purchases.

Inter Club Match KCC Golf Society vs Kowloon Tong Club! The Golf Society has been pushing for some InterClub games since last year. This time, a game against Kowloon Tong Club was on the cards. The game was played on the Old Course at HKGC. The weather held up somehow, and it was a great icebreaker with yet another club for the Inter-Club Games. The format was Match Play, in which the better ball score would be counted. Ten players from each team came out to play, forming 5 groups. The Sanjay / Rahul team combo started off pretty well, with Rahul putting for par to win the 1st hole. On the 2nd hole, Sanjay missing a 5-foot putt for par, causing a miss on doubling the lead. KCC held on their lead till hole 10, before losing a hole to KTC when they got lucky and chipped the ball in for a birdie from 20 feet away. Following through, KTC eventually took the lead and fought for the win 4:5. The Strongest Team of KCC was a combo of Eric & David. They started off slow, but were eventually leading by 5 holes with 4 more holes to play – thus giving them a Unanimous 7:2 victory for the Match. The other team pulling off a win was the combo of Anthony & Vincent, who won at the end by literally a hairline. With 2 holes to play, the game was still anybody's, with the match tied at this point, but KCC came out winning that match with a 3:2 as well.

The other 2 teams were Ashok / Christopher and CM Mak / Gabriel. Despite Ashok having a fabulous game and hitting a gross score of 89, it was not enough for his team to pull off a win. His team eventually lost 4:6. CM's team was also on the losing end, with a final score of 4:5. CM's team struggled for the 1st nine holes, and played brilliantly on the back nine, but it was too little too late.

The results gave KTC the Cup for this year, winning with a 2:3 score line. KCC did well for their 1st Inter-Club match in Match Play, and with more games to be played in the near future, we hop e to see many more positive results. KCC GS had a superb game planned for the August league game at HKGC, but Typhoon Hato had other plans for us... This game eventually got called off due to Typhoon Signal 8 being issued. The Final League Game will be held on 1 November, at the famous Xili Golf Course, and will be followed by Dinner at KCC. It is always a very popular event, in which everyone meets up for the Year End Prize Presentations. Guests are welcome as well. Mark your diaries for this date.

KCC's Very Own – Inara Sharma records an extraordinary victory in the HK Junior Championships at the Clearwater Bay Golf Club KCC and Hong Kong’s Inara Sharma was crowned Girls’ Overall Champion at the Hong Kong Junior Open Championship last month, finishing with a final round 72 for a total of 215 at the Clearwater Bay Golf Club in very wet and windy conditions. At 15, she was among the youngest competitors in the 15-18 age category, competing against golfers from around the region including China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Japan. Inara will join Yannick Artigolle, the overall boys' champion, for the final two days of the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions, at Sheshan International Golf Club in October. There, they will get an inside-the-ropes look at how a World Golf Championship event is staged, and will be treated to a coaching clinic with one of the world’s top golfers. On the Monday following the final round, they will have the opportunity to play on the tournament course in a match against their peers from the CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Programme.

Dunlop, who generously agreed to sponsor an invitation match between KCC and HKFC, also, donated four badminton racquets which were used by all players in the opening men’s doubles tie. This tie saw HKFC edge out KCC with a very tight 31:29 victory. Thereafter, KCC displayed our strength in depth, easing to a comprehensive 8:3 victory. All the matched were extremely competitive, with some very close and exciting matches. Whilst all the pairs displayed a high level of skill, special mention should be given to Brandon and Vivek – who have come up through the junior ranks and (with their partners) beat far more experienced opposition. T h e e ve n t c l o s e d w i t h a delicious buffet dinner, which was enjoyed by all. Thanks to the F&B team. Inter-Club League 2017 By Adrian Townson

We now have 3 matches remaining and a good score in these will see us fighting at the top of the table, come the end of the season!

Overseas Visitors On 27 October, we will be entertaining the TATTERSALL’S Club, from Brisbane, Australia; nearer the time, we'll post details so players can come and join in another great night in the Sanctuary. These events are as much about the social side as about playing the game, so feel free to come and support the teams as well as meet up with some old friends, even if you don’t fancy a frame!

In-House Tournaments in the Sanctuary Our In-House Tournaments are now underway with the draw of the 6-Reds having taken place, with 12 entrants. There will be a group stage, with the 4 winners progressing to the Semi Finals. The schedule for all our tournaments is now posted on the noticeboards, and has been emailed to all our members. The next tournament will be the Volunteer, followed by the Handicap. The latter is a great tournament for anyone to enter, as you will get a good head start when playing the top players, so really anyone can have a good chance of winning!

SNOOKER

KCC started slowly in the four singles matches, probably due to a bit of rust from the lack of match and tournament play over the summer months, and we all got picked off, one by one, leaving the score a disappointing 0:4 to CCC. With the tie effectively lost, there was only pride to play for, but Bennie & Don and Ivan & Johnny certainly made sure that was done, with 2 well fought victories. The overall 2:4 loss was identical to our winning margin at CCC, so at least on the “head to head” score for the season, we remain inseparable!

After the summer break, KCC restarted with a tough fixture against the Craigengower Cricket Club. We had pulled off a bit of an upset by beating them at home earlier in the season, and they came prepared with revenge in mind!

Our Snooker Ladder also continues, with anyone eligible to join and challenge those above you. This really is a great way to get to know other players in the Sanctuary and enjoy a competitive match. If you are interested to join the SANCTUARY as a SNOOKER MEMBER, please contact us and put your name/phone number and email on the “Contact List” posted in the Sanctuary. You will then receive emails about upcoming tournaments and events, and can join our growing snooker “team”! The more the merrier!
