ST. MARY’S PARISH

February 11, 2018

Pastor’s Corner We begin our Lenten journey this week with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. All of us willingly receive the imposition of ashes as a sign of our desire to enter into the spirit of Lent. The ashes remind us of our mortality, that one day we will have to stand before our God and give an accounting of our lives. They also remind us of the practice of Lent: Prayer, self-discipline, almsgiving, and works of charity. It is my great hope that all of you use these days of Lent to grow in holiness and as a preparation to renew your baptismal promises on Easter. It is a special time for those in the RCIA as they prepare to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation. Please hold them in your prayers. If you want to do something special for Lent, one great sign of your dedication, I invite you to be with us at Lenten Vespers, the Evening Prayer of the Church, next Sunday, Feb. 18 at 5 PM. We conclude the prayer with a simple meal of soup and prayer and fellowship. May many blessings come to you as you begin your Lenten journey. ~Fr. Mike. Lord’s Laughter

A priest commented at a funeral, “We are gathered here today to pay homage to a good man. He was a kind man, a man everyone loved, and a man who treasured his family as much as his family treasured him.” The widow suddenly leaned over and whispered to her grandson, “Go make sure that’s your grandpa in the coffin.”
