The Vision of St. Clare Parish St. Clare Parish is a dynamic faith community in which we, as members, embrace the Eucharist as the center of our lives and as a source of our: SPIRITUALITY, which calls us to grow in our personal relationship with God and others; COMMUNITY, which calls us to welcome and value each person; SOCIAL ACTION, which calls us to serve and support the community of College Hill and beyond; LAY LEADERSHIP, which calls us to form and empower the parish and deanery; STEWARDSHIP, which calls us to share our time, talents, and treasures.

St. Clare Parish Parish Membership: If you would like to join the parish, please see Fr. George. Parishioners leaving or moving are asked to contact the parish office. Baptisms: First time parents are required to attend a baptismal preparation session, preferably during the pregnancy. Please plan to attend one of these reflective and supportive sessions which are offered on the first Thursday of Feb., April, Aug., and Nov. at 7:00pm. Please register at the parish office. Parish School of Religion: The Parish School of Religion (PSR) passes on the faith to St. Clare children in elementary school (grades 1-8) who are not attending Catholic schools. PSR meets Sunday mornings September through April. Contact the parish office to register or to learn how you can become part of this ministry.

February 11, 2018 Weddings: Engaged couples must make an appointment with the pastor at least six months in advance of the wedding date. Please contact the parish office. High School Tuition Match Reaches 57% of Goal Goal: $5,000 Received: $2,826 Needed: $2,174 59 donors have contributed. Won’t you make a donation so we can take advantage of this $1 for $1 match that an anonymous parish donor is offering? We could realize $10,000 to aid St. Clare high school students and their families. Please drop your donation in the collection basket. Where else can $10 instantly become $20?

New Collection Date We have moved our collection to August 26. In 1980, Catholic Inner-city Schools Education Fund (CISE) was founded to give all children, regardless of their religious backgrounds and economic circumstances, the opportunity to receive a quality education at a neighborhood Catholic school. We celebrate the Rite of Sending on February 18 during the 10:30am Mass. At this time, our catechumens, Elsa Boeres, Joseph Papa and Veda Sears, will pr oclaim to us that they believe God has called them to participate in the Easter sacraments. Our candidates, Billy J. Reed, Lailah Robinson and Marissa Robinson, ar e pr oclaiming their desir e to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church. We, the Church, ratify their choice and send them with our encouragement, prayers, and support to the archbishop for election (catechumens) and recognition (candidates).

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s Stewardship Thought In today’s second reading, St. Paul urges the Corinthians to “do all for the glory of God.” If we follow that advice in everything we do, we cannot help but be good stewards!

Fasting and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and also days of fast, that is, limited to a single full meal. The other Fridays of Lent we are to abstain from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 & older. The law of fast binds all Catholics from their 18th to their 59th birthday. The obligation to do penance is a serious one. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast & abstinence on days prescribed should be considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call.

Archbishop Schnurr sends his thanks to everyone from St. Clare Parish who has pledged to the 2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal. If you have not yet made your pledge, please consider doing so this week. These important local ministries depend on our help each year. You will find extra pledge envelopes in the pews for your convenience this weekend. To make a pledge securely online, please visit CatholicAppeal.net. Thank you!

All are invited to join St. Clare's 2018 Walk to Jerusalem The Walk to Jerusalem is an imaginary walk that encourages walkers to increase physical activity, spiritual growth and cultural awareness through a virtual tour to Jerusalem. It was initially launched in January 2002 and has since been embraced by churches and organizations in the US and Canada. Walkers have commented that it has increased their physical activity because it is goal oriented and encourages team spirit and accountability. Others have grown in their knowledge and understanding of countries and cultures. Many walkers have found that their prayer time has increased and become more meaningful while walking. Does it sound good to you?

How can you participate? Walking, or any physical activity – keep and submit a record of your actual miles or convert any 15 minutes of activity to one mile. Spiritual growth or cultural awareness activity, such as reading the Little Black Books or participating in St. Clare’s Lenten Programs (Sunday morning or Thursday morning Bible Study) or daily prayers or reading the Bible – you decide on the activity and convert any 15 minutes of activity to one mile.

This is your journey. Whatever you do on your Lenten journey counts! This is also our journey. Individuals submit their miles and collectively we will try to reach Jerusalem by Easter. The distance between Cincinnati, Ohio and Jerusalem is approximately 6,192 miles. For four years we’ve made it all the way! Can we do it again? We can all be on the journey...all ages invited .

Make this Lent 2018 a very special journey. Celebrate Easter in a very special way when you know you have made this journey and met your own personal goals for Lent. You can submit your "miles" each week via the collection basket, Walk to Jerusalem collection boxes at church doors, regular mail, email ([email protected]), phone Fran (513.871.7026) or send to Donna in the office. “Mile Log Sheets” are at each church door, alongside the collection box. You can put your completed forms in the Walk to Jerusalem boxes. On the Mile Log Sheet there are several optional items besides reporting your miles. You can provide your name and any prayer concerns or intentions that were included in the activity. You also can share a little about your activity or what you observed as you did the activity or how the activity inspired you (see the sample below). You don’t have to use the Mile Log Sheet to submit your miles; however you can get the miles to us is fine. We’ll tally the miles and track our progress. We hope you’ll join us for increased physical, spiritual, and cultural growth! Questions: contact Fran Meyer (513.871.7026) or Donna in the office (513.541.2100, [email protected]).

Thank You! Looking for a game of cards or scrabble? Come join us at our February Open Gym on Saturday, February 17 after 5:00pm Mass. In January we had a couple of different groups playing a rummy game called five crowns and a board game called double ditto. Of course the kids ran the gym and we all had snacks and pizza. But really, there is something for everyone - join us.
