The summer Youth Recreation Program will be based at the St. John’s Youth Center, 921 North Union St. All activities held at the William O. Smith Recreation Center in previous summers will take place this summer at the St. John’s Youth Center.

PLEASE NOTE: Important information for Franchot pool. • Floatation devices are not allowed (includes in bathing suits). • Pools may close due to inclement weather. • SWIMMING DIAPERS ARE MANDATORY available on site for a small fee. • THE WILLIAM O. SMITH RECREATION CENTER WILL RE-OPEN FOR THE ICE SKATING SEASON WHEN THE RENOVATION IS COMPLETED IN SEPTEMBER.

Supervised RECREATION

at St. John’s Youth Center June 26 thru August 11 • 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM • Mon-Fri * FREE LUNCH AT NOON AT BOARDMAN PARK (starting July 5th)* A wide variety of supervised recreational special events, activities, contests and crafts will be held at the St. John’s Youth Center and Boardman Park (located one block away). * Recreation activities will not be held on July 4th.

ARTS AND CRAFTS AT THE PLAYGROUND Monday, June 26 thru Thursday, August 11 Ages 5-10. For registered children in Summer Program, craft projects will vary weekly.

SENIORS NEED RECREATION TOO! John J. Ash Community Building at 112 North Barr y St. is open for seniors 60+ in the city and town of Olean.

New at the center, we now have bumper pool, short board shuffle board and ping-pong. Coffee, donuts & fruit are available Monday thru Friday 9 to 11am.

The Senior Center offers a wide variety of programs to choose from including exercise programs, Yoga & Tai Chi, Wii games, bingo, crafts, movies and square dance lessons. Guest speakers come in at lunch time. Free Wifi and computer use. Day and week trips are scheduled. Miniature golf league during the summer months.

Olean Junior League meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7pm. A Tureen dinner is held the 2nd Monday at 5pm for a nominal price. Lunches served weekdays by Cattaraugus County Nutrition Dept. for $3.50 at 11:30am. Call 716-3765670 for more information. John J. Ash Community Center is available for group rental.

OLEAN AREA YOUTH COURT The City of Olean Youth Bureau & Recreation Dept. is staffing and scheduling activities at the Alder Street, Martha Avenue & West (15th St.) Housing Courts June 26 through August 11. Further information may be obtained by calling 376-5698.

The Olean Area Youth Court is a highly successful delinquency intervention/prevention program ser vicing first time offenders between the ages of 7 and 15 years old. The Youth Court members are high school students from Olean, Allegany-Limestone, Portville and Hinsdale. Students are required to complete a structured training program and successfully pass a final law exam. They serve as the judge, side judge, facts attorney and law guardian. Youth Court is in session 2 Monday evenings each month. For more information contact Paula Keenan, Coordinator at 376-5645. Page 3

Children will be introduced to theatre through

creative play. Exercises and games will focus on acting through storytelling, creating a character, expressing a feeling, music, and movement. A craft and story will often be included. • Fun outdoor math and science projects. • Games including acting, team building, and just plain fun. • Performing Arts activities including singing dancing, karaoke, acting, music and puppets. • Literary and Visual Art including water coloring, using natural items found in Oak Hill Park creative writing and poems.

“THE STAR PROGRAM” PreK to Grade 8 Free Lunch at Noon everyday

Musical presentation of the Emmy-Award winning “School House Rock Live!” Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12 Noon July 10 through August 4, at Olean High

School. The STAR program will present the musical “School House Rock” with PreK through 8th grade students this summer.

An intensive program in Performance Arts includes Mindstorm (robotics) computing coding, video production, newspaper, writing, acting, and poetry with a performance in the OHS Auditorium. Students are expected to attend the program regularly. For further information call 375-8031. Page 7
