BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMITTEE ON RULES OF I MINA 'TRENTAI DOS NA LJHESLATVRAN GUAHAN: WHEREAS, Catherine "Cathy" lllarmo was born in 1945; wa sh..-is the daughter of tPeter Nelson and tLauta Sgambelluri Nelson; wd WHEREAS, Cathy was originally from the village of Y~o and now res.ides in the village of Afangiho. She is married to John A. Illarmo, Retired Colone~ and she is the mother of Eric, Kristen, Marcello and Christina; and is the grandmother of Josephine Eve; and WHEREAS, in 1972, Cathy received her Master of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii; and from 1974 to 1975, Cathy did post graduate tr.lining at the Alfred Alder Institute of Chicago, Illinois; and WHEREAS, from 1968 to 1974, Cathy bad served as a Social Worker I to Social Worker IV at the Public Welfare DiVlsion of the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS). From 1974 to 1977, Cathy secved as a Family Counselor with the Superior Court of Guam. Cathy then returned to DPHSS, where she worked as the Chief Human Services .\dministrator, from 1977 to 1989; and WHEREAS, from 1989 to 1992, Cathy worked as a Social Worker for the U.S. ,\Jr Force Family Advocacy Program at Andersen .\Jr Force Base. From 1993 to 2000, Cathy held another Social Worker position with the Navy Fleet and Family Support Center. From 2000 to 2002, C•thy was :ii. Family Life ConsulUnt with the Family Support Center at .Andersen Air Force Base; and WHEREAS, from 2002 to 2012, Cathy was the Team Leader and Clinical Social Worker at the Guam Vet Center, Readjustment Counseling Servtcc, U .S, Department of Veterans Affairs, where she worked with combat veterans and families coping with post trawnaric stress disorder and associated issues. During her tenure at the Guam Vet Center, Cathy spearheaded the o~arion of the annual Gwun Veterans' Creative Arts showcase and the annual Women Veterans Conference. Because of her hard work. with these two annual important events, Cathy has garnered the utmost respect and appreciation &om Gw.m veterans, rheir families, and the co-organizers; as well as from those who worked alongside het; and WHEREAS, through her work within the field of social services, Cathy had been recognized by the Guam .Association of Social \X'orkers as ''SocUI Worker of the Year" in 1984. In 1988, she was also recognized as "Outstanding Charter Member." Throughout her years of service, Cathy h>S dedicated hetself to the psychologic.J and social well-being of the people of Guam.
